I applied for the role and the hiring manager reached out to schedule a video interview. Many of the available times were after regular work hours, which made me a bit concerned about the company's work-life balance. I was excited about the role and the team. As soon as the call started, she didn't introduce herself and immediately began asking questions. It felt like an interrogation from the beginning, with no real interaction or follow-up on my answers. I actually wanted to end the call, but I realized she hadn't told me anything about the job, the team, or even who she was. I had to ask if she was the recruiter or the hiring manager. There were many unanswered questions. I asked them at the end, but by then, I had lost interest. I don't know if she was having a bad day or is just not very personable and wanted to get straight to my skills and what I could offer, but if you're doing an initial interview, please try to be friendly. Introduce yourself, especially if you're the hiring manager. The recruiter screen was skipped, which is an important step; if the hiring manager is interviewing first, please consider that.

Got referred to Riot. Had a decent interview process. First, an intro call with the HM to talk about my background and the role. Then a 1-hour video call with a Sr. Recruiter focusing on my 'craft,' which is basically how well I do my job, using a script of behavioral questions. The virtual onsite had 5 people, an hour each: peers, leaders, HM, and the SLI. They covered Riot Values (candidate experience/thrive together), Communication/Collaboration, Critical Thinking Problem Solving, more Riot Values (Dare to Dream, Execute with Excellence, Stay Hungry, Stay Humble - usually by the SLI), and Craft again. All questions were behavioral, asked in STAR format from their script. The last Craft interview had non-behavioral questions about recruiting knowledge, which felt a bit odd.

I was contacted by a recruiter for this role. We had a brief conversation about the company and potential next steps. Following that, I had a phone interview with the hiring manager the following week. The interview was pretty standard. I was asked about my thoughts on the Riot Manifesto, my past work experience, and my interest in gaming. After a week of no response, I followed up and was told they were moving forward with other candidates. The hiring manager provided feedback and offered a call to discuss the decision further. I had a positive experience overall, and despite not being selected, I felt Riot Games handled the initial contact and phone screen well.
