First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OneMain Financial.
Loan Specialist
The interviewer was a red flag. He was late for the interview over 15 minutes, but he didn't apologize, he made some excuse instead. He whined about one of his employees in my face, he called that employee a bottom producer. He showed me the payslips of his employees and the loan applications of his customers, I could see how much his employees make, the names, address, SSNs and income of his customers, which should not have been revealed to outsiders like me. He tried to pry my age by asking "how old were you when you came to the US?"

Data Scientist
It was a long process, comprising one assessment and five interview rounds. The final stage involved onsite interviews, for which I had to cover my own expenses. The interviews covered technical, behavioral, and case study aspects. Their communication emails had quite a few typos, but some interviewers were quite friendly.

Customer Service Representative
It started with a recruiter call, then a call with the team, and a final call with the hiring manager. Super organized. Everyone was nice and professional. Business casual place. Zoom worked well. As a candidate, the interview process normally starts with a recruiter screening call, then some interviews with managers and team members. These might have technical tests, behavioral questions, and situational problems. Each part is a chance to show your skills, experience, and if you fit the culture. It often finishes with a last round, maybe a panel or executive interview, then they give feedback and decide on an offer. Keeping in touch, being ready, and following up are important throughout.
- Can you describe your experience in customer service?
Accounts Payable Specialist
I met with the interviewer, but the conference room reserved for us was occupied. After asking the occupants to leave, we entered the room—an incredibly small space, just enough for a table and four chairs. Immediately, I was hit with an overwhelmingly strong odor of fresh, hot flatulence. The room had no ventilation, making the air feel thick and stagnant. I can only assume the previous occupants had been using it as their personal gas chamber, unaware that someone else had the room booked. Isn't that what restrooms are for? Despite the unfortunate atmosphere, the interview initially went well, and I received positive feedback in real time. The interviewer then invited another person to join. This person entered the room, and looked at the floor while shaking my hand. We spoke about the company, my goals, and why I want to work there. They seemed unprepared for the interview. They repeatedly said, "What else? What else?" after I finished speaking. They also scoffed at my education and acted as if they had never heard of the well-known local community college I attended. At the end of the interview, they sighed and said “Interviewing is hard.” I later reached out to the recruiter to discuss the unprofessional experience at OneMain, but unsurprisingly, I never received a response.
