First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at OneMain Financial.
Data Scientist
It was a long process, comprising one assessment and five interview rounds. The final stage involved onsite interviews, for which I had to cover my own expenses. The interviews covered technical, behavioral, and case study aspects. Their communication emails had quite a few typos, but some interviewers were quite friendly.
- What are the basics of Python?
- Can you explain SQL basics?
- Would you like to present your project?
Data Science Analyst
The interview process involved 4 rounds total: a 1-hour technical round, a 1-hour case study, a 20-minute project presentation, and a final 1-hour case study. Despite preparing extensively, I received a system-generated rejection. My attempt to get feedback was met with silence, which I found very unprofessional.
- Can you explain the differences between Type I and Type II errors?
- What are the methods for handling missing values in data?
- How do you decide which metrics to use for evaluation?
Data Scientist
So I've had two rounds of interviews: first, a technical screen where they ask you basic ML, pandas, SQL, and statistics questions. Then, there was a presentation round where you present a project you've worked on to the interviewer and have a Q&A after.
- Can you tell me what the hyperparameters are in XGBoost?
- What do you understand by type 1 and type 2 errors?
