First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MSCI.
Software Developer
So first there was this coding test on HackerRank. After that, we had three interviews. They checked my technical skills with questions and answers, and I also had a quick 5-10 minute assessment task. Then they asked about the projects on my resume. After passing those two technical screens, there was an HR interview.
- Could you write a medium-difficulty SQL query?
- What are your thoughts on multithreading in JAVA?
- Tell me about the projects listed on your resume.
Sales
I went through a 3 round interview process for a client coverage role. It ended with a final presentation and sales simulation. I spent a lot of time preparing for the case study and presentation. Then I got a rejection with very little feedback, saying I didn't have enough sales seniority. It's weird that they let me get to the final presentation if seniority was an issue, because multiple screening steps had already happened and I thought I was being considered for the role. The interview panel wasn't what was scheduled. Some people who were supposed to be there didn't show up, and others who weren't part of the main team showed up instead. One senior person had their camera and mic off the whole time, which was super awkward and made it seem like they weren't really paying attention. Even though I politely asked for feedback after the decision, neither HR nor the hiring team gave me anything useful. The whole process took a lot of time, effort, and prep from my side, but I didn't feel like they showed the same respect or transparency back. For a company that says it's a top data and analytics provider, I expected a much more organized and professional recruitment process.
- What's your strategy for engaging a GCC fund to offer them MSCI index services?
Product Marketing Manager
The interview process was really long and messy. They first said it would be 3 steps, but then it turned into 4 and then 5 steps. The interview rounds didn't make sense in order, and it seemed like the managers didn't agree on what the role was about or remember who had already interviewed me. The feedback was pretty standard, and the interviewers were nice, except for HR, who seemed annoyed and bothered to have to do the interview.
- Could you give an example of a GTM launch?
- Can you tell me about your stakeholder management skills?
Intern
It was a few rounds but it was very smooth. The interviewers were respectful and had thoughtful questions. They were communicative about next steps and open to any questions the candidate may have. Interview was alright, 2 rounds 30min each via zoom. Friendly interviewer, mostly cv screening and behaviour questions. Especially strict on student status. Ask about future career path and suitability. Introduced in detail what the company is doing

- Could you tell me about your experience as detailed in your resume?
- Are you currently a student?
