So the process started with an HR screening call, which was really helpful in understanding the role better. Then there were three interviews. The first one after HR was with the hiring manager, and it was a mix of discussing the role and then diving into my technical skills. The next interview was a technical panel where I was asked about data science and ML concepts. After that, I had two take-home assessments to do simultaneously. They were pretty time-consuming to do well, but it was a good way to see what the team actually works on and what they expect, which I thought was better than the typical Leetcode questions that don't always feel relevant. The final stage was a panel interview where I had to present my take-home assessment. Presenting and answering questions on the spot was a bit daunting, but the interviewers were all super nice.

I received an email about the OA on September 3rd, then there was silence. Later, I got another email explaining a glitch in their system, and then I received the OA link on September 11th. I completed the OA the same day. On September 17th, I got another email stating my skills don't match their requirements. I replied asking why I was shortlisted if my skills didn't match. After a day, I received another email saying my assessment wasn't up to par. Honestly, what kind of recruitment process is this?

It was a multi-interview process. I talked to HR, the hiring manager, and then several panels of coworkers. They asked scenario-based questions to see if I had the right knowledge, if I'd fit into the role, and if I'd fit into the company. Things moved pretty fast, and they let me know their decision pretty quickly after I responded.

I applied in March for a Senior Director position, but by the time I interviewed in May, it had been changed to a Director role. The recruiter was great, we had good rapport, and there was alignment, but I was rejected without explanation. If it takes over five months to fill a position, companies need to examine their hiring manager process. It's demoralizing for candidates. There must be plenty of qualified candidates with industry experience who could do well in this role. Stop looking for unicorns.
