First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McAfee.
Software Development Engineer In Test
The HR reached out, and we had an initial phone screening. After that, I went through 4 onsite interviews at McAfee's Bangalore office. If I passed those, there was a final director round. The entire onsite process lasted a full day. The interviewers were nice and helped with questions and code reviews. The overall process was quite delayed, and despite multiple attempts to contact HR, I didn't get any response or feedback. I was annoyed by the lack of communication. About 20 days later, HR finally got back to me and confirmed I passed all the rounds.
- The phone screening involved manual and problem-solving questions. One problem was to determine if a string is a palindrome, and another was about manual test cases for a payment page.
- For the onsite interviews, Round 1 focused on problem-solving with arrays and applying design patterns to a given model.
- Round 2 involved problem-solving using strings and hashmaps.

So, there were 4 rounds in total. The first one was a phone call where they asked me about test cases and scenarios. Then came the second round, which was a written test. They gave me a description of an application and I had to write functional, non-functional, and automation scripts for it. The third round focused on programming skills. They presented me with a programming problem, and after I provided a solution, they asked me to modify it. This was followed by questions on white box testing and code optimization. Finally, the fourth round was more of a verbal discussion, covering questions about Data Structures, puzzles, and my current role and work.

The interview process starts with a telephonic round for a technical discussion. Following that, there's a face-to-face round where they explore your experience. Then comes a machine coding round where you'll tackle 3-5 programming problems focusing on threading, string manipulation, and OOPS concepts. After that, you'll have a round with the Hiring Manager to discuss your interest in the company. Finally, an HR round will cover CTC, joining date, and company policies.
