First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McAfee.
Inside Sales Representative
I had an initial phone chat with the HR Sales Recruiter, but they didn't seem to know much about the job or company. They said they'd set up a call with the hiring manager, but after 10 business days, I had to chase them up. They apologized and said they'd sort it quickly. Another 5 business days went by with no word, so I followed up again and finally got the hiring manager call scheduled. That call was good, covering the role, company, and next steps. Then, within 7 days, I had a face-to-face interview with the hiring manager and regional director, and got an offer soon after.

Inside Sales Representative
First, there was a phone interview with the Talent Acquisition team. Then, a few days later, I had another phone interview with a hiring manager. Both of these focused on why I wanted to work for McAfee and what skills I'd bring. You should totally research the company beforehand so you can talk intelligently about the role you're going for. The in-person interviews happened on the same day the following week, and I got an offer about a week or so after that.
- Beyond being an Anti-Virus company, what else do you know about McAfee?
- What are your thoughts on cold calling?
Inside Sales Representative
So I was contacted by a recruiter at McAfee for some inside sales jobs at their Plano, TX office. I was interested because McAfee is owned by Intel and I wanted some 'big name' experience. The recruiter had a quick chat with me for some background screening questions, then said she'd set up an interview. I then had a phone interview with a few managers from a sales group. It went well, but then weeks passed with no word. The recruiter reached out again saying feedback was good and set up another phone interview. Turns out it was with a manager from a different sales group for a different opening. This happened 2 more times, and I had to keep explaining to each manager that I didn't understand why I was interviewing with different groups instead of sequentially with one. Finally, the recruiter scheduled an on-site interview with the Director for a territory. It went great, but again, no feedback. When I followed up, she said I needed to speak with one more manager via phone. I thought this would be the final interview for the position I interviewed on-site for. But it was for a spot on a completely different team! I called the recruiter back to say I was still interested in the original opening I interviewed on-site for. She assured me this last call was for the 'right' job, with a newly hired manager. I agreed, and the manager promised salary specifics and an offer within 7 days. The time passed, and after no updates, the manager finally responded saying the opening wasn't available and asked if I was interested in a different role! This was after they told me they'd be making an offer! It seems like there's no internal communication about openings between recruiters, managers, and teams. I expected a larger company like McAfee (owned by Intel) to have a structured interview process, but it was very disorganized and a waste of my time. It made me realize that working there might be like this and I'd be smart to decline any offer. I'd advise others to save themselves the trouble.
- Why are you interested in a sales role?
