The recruiter, Leena Gajjala, reached out to set up an initial call. Then, I had two Teams interviews: one with a VP on Dec 16, 2025, and another with an Enterprise Architect on Dec 23, 2025. The recruiter mentioned they don't use an ATS, which seemed odd for a big company like Catalyst Brands / JCPenney, and honestly, the rest of the process felt like it. After the interviews, keeping in touch was hard and mostly reactive. I had to follow up multiple times over weeks (Jan 2, Jan 14, Jan 16, Feb 25, 2026) just to get an update. They gave vague answers like 'waiting on feedback' or 'interviewing candidates' without any clear timeline or updates. I finally got a rejection after I asked again. The interviewers themselves were good, but the whole recruiting part felt disorganized and dragged on too long. A simple system for updates and clearer expectations would have really helped. Pros: Interviewers seemed knowledgeable and professional. Cons: No clear process/timeline, slow follow-up, and lack of proactive communication/closure. Advice to management: Implement (or properly use) a structured candidate tracking process, set expectations upfront on timing, provide periodic updates without candidates having to chase, and close the loop promptly once a decision is made.

They asked about my previous work and any leadership roles. I was told to explain things using the STAR method for experience-based questions. They really dug into my resume, focusing on specific experiences and skills. It was a polite and fast process, but I need to make sure my explanations are complete.

The interview was pretty easy overall. We were in a group of other people interviewing, and we each had to talk about what we thought was good customer service. After that, we had some blocks and had to build something, like a house. The catch was that the person who could see the blueprint couldn't touch the blocks, so I had to explain how to build it just by talking. I'm not sure how I did, but I got the job. This was during the holidays in 2017.

A recruiter from JCPenney reached out on LinkedIn and we had an initial call. After that, I interviewed with the team I would potentially be joining. Then, I had another interview with their director, followed by a final interview with the HR representative. The last step was an art project that I had to present to them to show my skills matched their needs.
