First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at JCPenney.
Product Consultant
I had a bunch of interviews and the manager made it really easy. I got an offer, but it was conditional on a background check. The check took way longer than I expected, like over a month. Every time I called, they said it hadn't come back yet or it was probably stuck in the system. Turns out, JCPenny has this policy where if the check doesn't finish in 2 weeks, they move on to other people. They didn't tell me this at all, and it went on for ages. Then, they finally told me the check actually came back on time, but they 'weren't aware of it'. My advice is to not be shy about checking in and keeping the lines of communication open.
- What product would you try to sell me if you could pick any one?
Product Consultant
I applied online and after a group interview, there was a quick one-on-one to see if they'd hire us. The group interview had me and 11 others, and they were only hiring 3. I was nervous because everyone else was a makeup artist and I wasn't. Then, the interviewer went around and asked each of us a different question off a list, so everyone got a unique, on-the-spot question. She then talked about Sephora and what they were looking for. It wasn't as interactive as I expected. Afterwards, she called people up to her office one by one, asked them a question or two, and then told them if they got the job. I got hired!
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Could you explain the distinction between Sephora locations inside JCPenney stores and standalone Sephora stores?
- Which brands available at Sephora are your personal favorites?
Product Consultant
The interview will most likely always be a group interview. For Sephora inside JCP, the rest of the people in my interview were applying for jcpenny sales associate positions, which was nice. When you come in, you sit down in front of a folder with hiring information and paperwork. You play 3 different games: one is about memorizing and team building, one is about how you present yourself, and there was one more I don't remember. You can search "Sephora inside jcpenny hiring process" on YouTube for helpful videos. They prepared me.
- Do you have any questions about availability?
