There were 4 interviews total. First, a call with the internal recruiter to go over basic qualifications and see if I was a good fit. Then, a technical interview where I had to add a simple feature to a demo app. After that, I spoke with the engineering manager. This interview usually involves questions about my past work experience and finishes with a system design discussion on a whiteboard. Lastly, a short chat with the CTO about my work history and how I approach work.

I was referred to Hopin for a Customer Support position and felt I excelled in all the rounds. The initial rounds progressed quickly, with good communication and organization from HR, team members, and CS leads. However, the questions were repetitive across most rounds, with only one new question added per stage. A major issue was the three-month follow-up period after the final decision, requiring constant HR check-ins. This prolonged uncertainty was mentally taxing. Finally, after three months, I received an email for a video call with an offer. During the call, they introduced a requirement for night hours, which hadn't been discussed initially. Despite the attractive compensation, I politely declined due to this experience and the unagreed-upon shift change. Reflecting on it, given the company's subsequent two massive layoffs, I believe it was the right call.

Behavioral Presentation

I was contacted by a recruiter via Hired, and we had a good initial conversation. I then advanced to the next stage with the hiring manager. The recruiter was helpful and responsive during this time. They were supposed to schedule my next interview, but after a few weeks, they apologized and said the headcount was cut. I suggested we stay in touch, and they agreed. I followed up three months later about new openings, but heard nothing. I followed up again two weeks after that and still got no response. This was really annoying because the recruiter was super nice and friendly at first, even spending an hour on video for what was supposed to be a 30-minute call. It felt dishonest and like a waste of my time.

Behavioral Presentation

I started with a recruiter call that felt promising. Then I met the hiring manager, who seemed to lack marketing experience, which was a bit odd given their role. That interview was alright. After that, I was asked to do some unpaid work to demonstrate my product marketing skills. This was followed by a presentation to the hiring manager and one other person. It was a bit unusual for this to happen mid-process and not as a panel. Later, I had to join a call with someone in Ireland, which meant a very early morning for me. Throughout the interviews, the focus seemed to be on getting free ideas rather than discussing past experiences relevant to their business. The last interviewer asked questions as if she had a specific answer in mind, but didn't give enough background on Streamyard/Hopin, making it tough to answer effectively even with my PMM knowledge.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Regarding cross-selling and upselling Hopin and Streamyard customers, how would you approach this?
  • What product marketing strategy could be implemented to integrate Streamyard with Hopin?
  • Please devise a strategy for launching a new feature to our customers and prepare to present it to key stakeholders.
