A recruiter reached out in January 2025 and set up my first interview, which was a live-coding session with a tech lead. It was surprisingly low-stress and supportive. The coding part focused on distributed architecture functions. I was quickly scheduled for two more interviews: a behavioral chat with my potential manager, and a final live-coding session with another engineer. The behavioral interview dove into my tech experience relevant to the role and a deep dive into a past project. The last coding interview was also chill, focusing on data structures, specifically linked lists. I was pretty much told I had the job, pending approval from the new owners, Wonder. Then I saw news about Wonder laying off a big chunk of staff, and silence since then. The people I met were genuinely great, though.

Behavioral Technical Coding System Design
I went through 5 interviews in total. Initially, there were 2 general interviews, followed by 2 hands-on ones: a simple coding challenge and a system design interview where I had to present an architecture of my past work. There was also a personality test. After receiving two positive emails about their impressions, they inquired about my salary expectations. Without any negotiation on salary or role expectations, they informed me a week later that their view on the position had changed. This whole experience felt like a significant waste of time for everyone involved. The interview process was longer than typical, and for a company that isn't a startup, making last-minute changes without any discussion on compensation or expectations is quite unprofessional.

There were 4 interviews total. The first one was a leetcode problem. After I passed that, I had 3 more interviews: another coding session, this time more like a real day-to-day java coding problem, a behavioral interview asking about different situations I faced in my career, and a system design interview. Overall the interviews were interesting, though I think 4 interviews is quite a lot. They also ghosted me, and I had to ask after a week if I was accepted. They replied they chose another candidate, without any feedback.
