Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grubhub.
Analyst
The interview process included three rounds. First, an HR screening call to talk about my background and if I was a good fit for the role. Second, a detailed discussion with a senior analyst about my technical and project experience. The final round was with the hiring manager, which was more strategic and looked at overall fit and long-term potential.
- Can you explain the steps involved in data migrations?
Analyst
They have 4 rounds - 1 HR screening where they'll ask about your experience and your interest in the role. 2. 1st round with the director, covering resume and behavioral questions. 3. Technical round with 2 easy Leetcode SQL questions, domain-related questions, and a few behavioral questions. 4. Virtual onsite, which consists of 4 rounds. This part was tricky because HR wasn't very clear on specific preparation guidance. They are looking for people skilled in tagging and analytics. Unfortunately, I was rejected because I lacked extensive tagging experience, which I feel is a skill that can be learned on the job. The virtual onsite included interviews with a business analyst asking about A/B testing, and a Data Warehousing lead where I was asked to design a data warehouse for Uber. The other 2 interviews involved 7-8 use cases on the Grubhub website; they opened the website and asked to calculate KPIs.
- Tell me about your background and what draws you to this position.
- Can you walk me through your resume and answer some behavioral questions?
- Solve these two SQL problems, similar to easy Leetcode questions.
Analyst
Applied and got the first interview in 4 days. The first round was an HR call with general behavioral questions. Then, I interviewed with the Team Director for the second round, which also included general behavioral questions and some technical questions in SQL and Excel. The third round consisted of 6 consecutive 30-minute interviews. These involved technical questions covering Data Science, SQL, and a case study, along with behavioral questions. Overall, it was a good experience with nice people and a good culture!
- Tell me about your past project achievements.
- What technical skills do you have in SQL and Excel?
- Describe your experience with Machine Learning models.
