I had 1 recruiter screen, then 1 hiring manager screen which was very thorough and had many technical questions. After that, I moved to the project stage, which involved creating a presentation answering specific questions based on several related datasets. This project was due within 48 hours, a much tighter deadline than usual for a project of this size. I did ask for a small extension. The project was meant to be presented to a panel who would then ask questions. The day after I submitted my project, the recruiter emailed saying they weren't moving forward with the actual interview. Their reasoning was that I got most answers wrong, which I find hard to believe given my extensive QA. They wanted to use their time with more qualified candidates. In my experience as a hiring manager and panelist, I've never canceled an interview, and I found this to be disrespectful and a waste of my time. This experience left a bad impression, and I wouldn't apply to FiveTran again.

I recently interviewed for this role and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. The interviewer’s tone came across as overly bossy and somewhat intimidating, which made the conversation uncomfortable. Additionally, many of the questions asked were not aligned with the job description. While I understand that interviews can explore adjacent skills, the discussion felt deliberately off-track and did not reflect the core requirements of the role. Overall, the process could benefit from a more professional and candidate-friendly approach, with better alignment between the interview questions and the advertised job responsibilities.

So, first there was this chat with the TA person, just a quick rundown of the job and some basic stuff like if I’m eligible to work and what experience I have. Then, I talked to the hiring manager. That interview was more in-depth about the role and my background, and they asked things like how I deal with tough situations and what my biggest accomplishment was. After that, there was a technical test, a medium-level LeetCode/HackerRank type of thing where I had to code in C. I explained my approach, and the interviewer seemed okay with it, but the problem was a bit tricky, and I couldn't finish all the test cases. I figured it out after the interview and let the interviewer know. The recruiter then mentioned that the position was actually filled two weeks prior, which was confusing since they were still interviewing me. But overall, the process was smooth, and the interviewers were nice.
