This was a weird interview. The hiring manager talked about salary in the first meeting because they were worried about affording me. I told them the top end of their posted salary range was fine, as long as it included other compensation, but anything less would be too much of a pay cut. They said they would proceed, knowing they would have to offer the full amount. After interviewing me for weeks, they made an offer that was 40k less than expected. I'm not sure if recruiting and the hiring manager didn't communicate, or if it was a tactic. My peers and managers I interviewed with didn't respond when I asked them. So I turned it down. The job, which was very specific, was still posted months later with the same salary range. It's confusing to me: you're hiring for a role, you have a budget, you find a good candidate who will accept within that budget, and then you ruin the process. What's the point? I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication between recruiting and the hiring manager, or if it was some sort of tactic.

The process was pretty simple. It began with a recruiter who discussed various open Product Engineering roles and suggested one that matched my background. I then had separate Zoom meetings with the Product Manager and the Product Lead. An all-day, on-site interview was planned, but I had to pull out because I relocated to a different city for personal reasons and couldn't move to the office.

I applied for an administrative job in 2023 and went through an HR screening, a typing test, and an interview, but didn't get the job. Fast forward two years, I applied for a different admin position at the same place. I had an HR screening and was rejected right away. During the screening, I asked about assisting people states away and was told that was wrong and basically implied I wasn't listening. I checked the job posting later and the info was there; they probably copied an ad from another office. Getting rejected at 8 PM on a Saturday was the cherry on top.

The interview process began with a direct 30-minute initial video call with an HR representative. Following that, I was directed to a 60-minute interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager's approach was initially quite casual. However, there were several questions that shifted the conversation back to a more formal interview setting. These included behavioral questions, with a couple of scenario-based questions. I also received an open-ended question asking about my strategy for engaging a potential account. I attempted to gain more insight into their management style and the role's priorities, but the hiring manager seemed unreceptive and lacked forward-thinking. They even commented that the job was primarily about earning a salary. I was disappointed by the lack of follow-up from the hiring manager, even after sending a thank you email and asking a few questions over several weeks. I eventually received notification from HR that Esri would not be moving forward with my application, but they encouraged me to continue seeking other opportunities. The position has reportedly remained open and advertised for about five months.
