I interviewed for Product Engineer roles at ESRI, but it didn't work out. The first interview was rough; the engineer was condescending and didn't let me talk much. He asked about hydrology, which wasn't relevant to the job but was his research focus. My background is a Ph.D. in Geophysics with a remote sensing focus. The second interview with a woman went better. She shared that she felt engineers didn't respect her role and that she experienced similar condescension from others. She offered me a salary in the 90s, but I ended up taking another job.

Applied via referral, started with an HR screening call. Then had an interview with a team supervisor covering behavioral and technical topics. After that, I went to the Redlands HQ for an in-person round. It was a full day with 8 different interviews. It was a good chance to meet the team, understand the job, and see if I liked the role. Also got to check out the area to see if I'd want to live there. The interviews had mostly questions about my past experiences, with some challenging technical ones too. My main tip is to really know your resume inside out.

First, an HR phone call to discuss expected salary. Then, a tech interview about 10 days later. After that, a manager interview happened a week later, which was supposed to be 30 minutes to chat about my experience but went over by 15. It was sped up to a full-day interview after two days because they found out I had an offer. It was 6 hours long and I spoke with 9 employees. It was definitely long, but the team members were nice, so it was a great experience (I wish I could have gone on-site if not for covid). No coding involved, but they were very detailed about my resume and past experience. You should show your passion! I really liked the team, they were friendly and supportive. I would still consider them in the future!
