First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Esri.
Account Manager
The interview process began with a direct 30-minute initial video call with an HR representative. Following that, I was directed to a 60-minute interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager's approach was initially quite casual. However, there were several questions that shifted the conversation back to a more formal interview setting. These included behavioral questions, with a couple of scenario-based questions. I also received an open-ended question asking about my strategy for engaging a potential account. I attempted to gain more insight into their management style and the role's priorities, but the hiring manager seemed unreceptive and lacked forward-thinking. They even commented that the job was primarily about earning a salary. I was disappointed by the lack of follow-up from the hiring manager, even after sending a thank you email and asking a few questions over several weeks. I eventually received notification from HR that Esri would not be moving forward with my application, but they encouraged me to continue seeking other opportunities. The position has reportedly remained open and advertised for about five months.
- How would you go about managing this particular account?
- Can you tell me about a time you had to deal with a challenging client situation?
- What would be your plan for approaching and connecting with a new potential client?
Account Manager
It was a long process, with 5 interviews starting from the recruiter, then peers, the team lead, head of market, and finally the Exec. VP of BD/sales. I got really positive feedback throughout and the process seemed very thorough. The recruiter even told me my hiring was basically confirmed on the second to last call and we discussed compensation, start date, and benefits. They asked for references and I gave them, and I heard from my references that the calls went well. But then three days later, the recruiter called and said they were sorry but their priorities had changed and there would be no job offer. I was in their process for over 5 weeks, was given every indication I would be hired, and then ended up with 'sorry, no offer.' It wasn't a good experience and doesn't reflect well on their hiring practices. Nothing was illegal, just very misleading.
- How would you explain GIS to someone who knows nothing about it?
Account Manager
Had a phone screening that lasted about an hour and a half to see if I'd be a good fit for the company and the role. The next week, I had a two-hour interview with my would-be boss and HR. The day after that, there was a shorter interview with higher-ups. The first interview focused on my qualifications and job-specific questions. The follow-up interview was behavioral. The following week, I got an offer and accepted it. The whole process was positive and moved quickly. Everyone I talked to seemed to really like the company and the team atmosphere.
- Can you share your work experience and explain why you're a good fit for this position?
