First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Esri.
Solutions Engineer
It was a virtual interview first, and then two in person interviews were scheduled. The virtual interview was with a business development HR person and lasted an hour. They asked basic questions. I didn't get picked for the in person interviews.
- In your own words, can you explain what GIS is?
Solution Engineer
The interview process moved pretty fast for me. I had my first chat with HR a few days after applying and heard back a couple days later. The next round was a whole day of Zoom interviews with the department leadership. The last part of that day was a technical interview, which I think I messed up a bit because I was pretty worn out from the other interviews. Two days after that, I gave a presentation to the same group about a GIS project I'd done (it was my Masters project) and then had a final chat with the director about the role. Got an offer a few days after that. All in all, it took about a week and a half from start to finish. The questions weren't too tough, but definitely prep for the technical part.
- Can you explain the different parts of an ArcGIS Enterprise Deployment?
Solutions Engineer
A current employee connected me with the hiring manager, and we had a few introductory phone calls. I then flew out for an on-site interview. It was intense but had no surprises. I spoke with two people each hour from 8 AM to 5 PM. It felt laid-back yet professional. There were one or two more conversations with other people before HR contacted me with an offer. HR was very helpful throughout, leaving no room for doubt. I was happy with the hiring process. Hiring might not differ much between teams, but onboarding seems to, and my team is working on improving it.
- What are your in-depth, procedural answers concerning the ArcGIS platform and specific industries?
