EAB Interview Questions
& Process

EAB interview processes can drag on for weeks or even months. They're not very transparent about timelines or steps, and their interviews don't really seem designed to get to know what you're qualified for. I've interviewed with them more than once, and it was always a huge waste of time.

First, your application and resume are reviewed by HR or an ATS. If your skills seem like a good fit, a recruiter will call you for an initial screening. The recruiter call lasts about 30-45 minutes and they'll go over your background, skills, work authorization, and if you're willing to relocate. They might also ask about your current projects, how soon you can start, and your salary expectations. Then comes the first technical round, which is a coding challenge on a platform like HackerRank or CoderPad. They'll test your knowledge of data structures, algorithms, SQL, and debugging. If it's a data engineer role, you might also get ETL, PySpark, or Snowflake tasks. The second technical round is a deep dive, usually over Zoom/Teams with a senior engineer. They'll ask about Python (OOP, pandas, numpy), databases and SQL (joins, indexing, optimization), data engineering concepts (ETL, Spark, Airflow/ADF), cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), and for data science roles, machine learning basics, model deployment, and MLflow. System design questions about building scalable pipelines, big data, and fault tolerance are also common. After that, there's a managerial or project round to assess your problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Expect questions about your past projects, their business impact, how you handle on-call situations, and working with other teams. Finally, there's an HR/final discussion about salary, benefits, location, relocation, and work authorization, and they'll clarify the next steps and project assignment. If you're selected, you'll get an offer letter, and then a background check will be conducted, covering your education, employment history, and sometimes technical skills.

I applied to EAB online in August of 2024 and was then given and aptitude test to take, which took around 30 minutes to complete. The next week I had a phone interview with a very unenthusiastic recruiter who seemed to be reading from a script the entire time, which a left me with a very poor impression. I was also asked to describe my academic history rather than my work history in depth which seemed not very relevant given I am five years removed from college. After about two weeks of not hearing anything I received an email telling me EAB was not moving forward with my candidacy.

So first there was this online aptitude test, it was more about spotting patterns and some math stuff. Then a phone screening where we talked about my resume and some basic SQL like joins and unions. After that, a live coding and behavioral part, which had questions about working in production, teamwork, more SQL queries (join, count, group by, having), and fixing a DDL query for inserting data. The last round was a data analytics one where I had to use two datasets to make graphs and analyze the info.
