First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at EAB.
Consultant
I had two 30-minute interviews, then a final round with the partner, which was a group interview. The first two interviews were pretty standard behavioral ones, asking things like 'tell me about a time when...' and in two of them they threw in a logic or problem-solving question, but it wasn't too tough.
- Tell me about a time when...
- Would you solve this logic or problem solving question?

The interview process took a while and involved many people. It started pretty fast with a phone screen, then a timed writing test, a 30 min behavioral/30 min case phone interview, and finally an in-person interview in DC. The night before the in-person, I was told they weren't hiring for the specific role I applied for anymore, but I'd be interviewing for a general Consultant position. This was a bit jarring since I'd prepped for a specific role. The behavioral parts went okay, but the cases were tough given my research/policy background. I didn't feel I nailed the cases, nor did I get a good feel for the job from the short conversations. The office felt very corporate and impersonal, with no HR greeting me, just a receptionist and interviewers. I felt like they might have had many other candidates going through the same process. A few weeks later, HR contacted me about a third position, stating I was no longer being considered for the original or the in-person role. I appreciated their honesty about the fit. HR was generally responsive and enthusiastic, but I often didn't know who to follow up with, especially with delays. There were also several typos and date errors in emails from multiple HR people over the 10 weeks we corresponded, which felt a bit sloppy overall. I ended up accepting another job and withdrew my application, as I didn't think the third position was a good fit anyway. HR sent a kind closing note.
- What strengths would you contribute to this position?
- Can you describe a time when you were in charge of a project?
- Tell me about a situation where you worked with someone with a contrasting style or opinion and how you resolved the differences.

The interview process seems to be very long and involved, with two phone interviews, a writing test, and 2-3 in-person interviews. They also ask questions that are not straightforward and expect you to know a lot about the company's methodology, even though they say you don't need to be overly familiar with business affairs or the issues in Higher Ed. It feels like they are testing you before you even start. After all that, I just got a generic regret email with no feedback. My advice is to not waste your time unless you are sure you want to work there.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in EAB?
- What is it that EAB does?
- Could you provide specific details about EAB's projects and studies?
