Behavioral Technical

Had a screening call with the in-house recruiter. Then, I interviewed with two heads of/senior members of the finance department over Teams. I thought the interview went well, but I got a quick, generic rejection within one working day. When asked in the interview, I mentioned I didn't have experience in retail since leaving audit, so I hadn't seen rebates in a previous industry role, which was evident on my CV. I'm assuming that's why, which is a bit frustrating as this experience requirement wasn't on the advert or identified in the pre-interview screening as a dealbreaker, meaning it was a waste of my time. The interview itself felt like a slow-moving, old-fashioned place to work, but the aftermath makes me feel it's a culture of general laziness where candidates end up bearing the brunt.

Started with a recruiter screening, then a chat with the Hiring Manager. After that, there was a take-home assignment, which was kind of unclear on the instructions, but I ended up spending over 15 hours on it. Then a technical interview focusing on the assignment and some situational questions. Finally, a cultural fit discussion leading to an offer.

Behavioral Case

So the interview at Currys was pretty structured, they used a lot of scenarios. First, they wanted to know about my past experience, especially in sales and helping customers. One main thing they asked was what I'd do if I wasn't hitting my sales goals. I told them I'd look for help from coworkers who are doing better, learn what they do, and try their methods to get my numbers up. They also gave me a situation with a customer and asked how I'd close a sale. My plan was to ask questions to figure out what the customer needed, then clearly explain the cool features and benefits of the product, and finally suggest extra stuff like warranties that could make their purchase even better and keep them happy. Basically, they wanted to see if I could solve problems, work with others, and focus on the customer when selling.

Behavioral Case Presentation

The recruiter will greet you warmly and briefly introduce themselves and the company. They might offer you a drink to make you feel more comfortable. Then, they'll ask you to talk about yourself – your background, experiences, and education. The goal here is to see if you can present yourself clearly and concisely. You might need to elaborate on parts of your resume. After that, the recruiter will dive into questions about your past jobs, like the tasks you performed, the skills you gained, any challenges you faced, and what you accomplished. Depending on the role, they might use scenarios or case studies. Next, the recruiter will explain the job opening in detail: what you'll be responsible for, the team, the goals, and the work environment. They'll also share information about the company culture and values. Then, it's your turn to ask questions about the role, the team, career growth, the hiring process, and anything else you're curious about. Finally, the recruiter will wrap things up by explaining what happens next and the timeline for a response. Both parties will thank each other, and they might end with a nice closing remark.
