I interviewed for a Cyber Threat Detection Engineer role at Centrica back in August 2025. The whole thing was super fast, like they called me for the final interview the very next day. It felt really efficient and like they were genuinely interested. But, after that last interview, radio silence. I pinged HR about two weeks later, but still nothing. Four months on, and my application is still stuck on 'In Progress' online, no update, no rejection, nada. Honestly, it would be way better if Centrica just let candidates know where they stand within a reasonable time and actually updated the portal. The interview itself was fine, fair and all that, but the follow-up was a letdown. People put in time and effort, they deserve to know the outcome.

It's a 3 stage process. First, a 1-to-1 Technical Interview (they'll say it's a competency interview, but don't fall for it). Then, you get a technical briefing doc and have to answer questions and defend them with the interviewers. Lastly, you'll discuss company values and future stuff with other candidates while they watch how you cooperate.

The interview process had 3 rounds in total. The first round was a behavioral interview and resume walkthrough with a junior trader. The second round involved a take-home assessment with Excel/Python and an IQ test, which was unusual as it required editing a PDF, and I had about 2h35mins to finish. The final round was an interview with three senior traders, mainly behavioral questions. Communication with the hiring team was a bit difficult throughout all stages; I had to follow up multiple times for updates after each round. I got a rejection after the final round, even after asking for an update. They said they were proceeding with another candidate, but the same job posting reappeared online the next week.

The whole process took 10 weeks. It was 7 weeks from applying until I first spoke with the recruiter. Then, another 2 weeks went by until the second interview, which was a 45-minute panel with the hiring manager and some of the team. I had to give a 15-minute presentation about why I'd be a good fit for the job. They said they'd decide in 2 days, but I didn't hear back for a week, and they told me they'd offered the job to someone else. They mentioned they'd get back to me with feedback, but I never heard from them again.
