Technical Coding Behavioral Case

The interview process at Carvana felt extremely broken and like a massive time sink. It started with a recruiter screening and follow-up call, then moved into a take-home SQL coding assessment, followed by a technical skills round with a Senior Manager. After that, there were 8 additional rounds focused mainly on team fit, involving Directors and Senior Directors across multiple departments. At that point, the process felt excessive, poorly designed, and completely disproportionate to the role. I was honestly amazed that so many senior leaders had that much time available for such a drawn-out interview loop. Overall, the experience came across as inefficient, exhausting, and not respectful of candidates' time. To add to it, they flew me into Tempe for a day, extended an offer and then rescinded it due to inefficiency in visa transfer from their end.

Behavioral

It was a really strange interview experience. The person I spoke with was very friendly, and we got along great. I felt like I was exactly what they were looking for. They mentioned I was their first candidate, and they wanted me to speak with the next person in the hiring process. Less than a week later, they informed me they were proceeding with other applicants. I was surprised because the interview went so well and I thought I was a perfect fit. It was super disappointing and definitely made me feel negatively about the company, especially since I didn't receive any feedback. I'm curious to see who they end up hiring.

Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

A recruiter reached out to me directly. The initial conversations presented the role and expectations in a way that didn't quite match up with what came out later. After the recruiter chat and a talk with the hiring manager, I had to do a big take-home assignment. It involved digging into raw data, making spreadsheets, and putting together a whole presentation. It took up a ton of my time outside of my regular job. As things went on, it got confusing because the role expectations kept shifting. Some people wanted me to do super detailed data analysis, but then others said the job would use tools that already organize the data. Then they drilled down on Pardot and Salesforce skills, which wasn't part of the take-home. These mixed messages came from different interviewers and also didn't match what the recruiter first said. Even after getting good feedback, I had to go to a long onsite interview day. I had to take a whole day off and pay for travel myself. The day had me doing a panel presentation review, talking with people from other teams, and a final chat with the hiring manager. In that last meeting, the hiring manager seemed checked out, and didn't show much interest in my questions. Honestly, the whole thing felt like they weren't clear on the role themselves and didn't really consider how much time, work, and money candidates put in.

Even though the place was super busy, the interview folks kept things organized and told us exactly what to expect. I checked in and waited with about 8 other people. Then we were called up, went through security, and took an elevator to another waiting area. People were randomly called by whoever was free next for their interview, either in a private office or at a table nearby. My chat with the interviewer was good and lasted about 15-20 minutes. Afterwards, some of us who finished were escorted back down and through security. The whole thing took more than an hour, but it wasn't bad and actually gave me time to get ready and check out the place.
