Product Manager
A recruiter reached out to me directly. The initial conversations presented the role and expectations in a way that didn't quite match up with what came out later. After the recruiter chat and a talk with the hiring manager, I had to do a big take-home assignment. It involved digging into raw data, making spreadsheets, and putting together a whole presentation. It took up a ton of my time outside of my regular job. As things went on, it got confusing because the role expectations kept shifting. Some people wanted me to do super detailed data analysis, but then others said the job would use tools that already organize the data. Then they drilled down on Pardot and Salesforce skills, which wasn't part of the take-home. These mixed messages came from different interviewers and also didn't match what the recruiter first said. Even after getting good feedback, I had to go to a long onsite interview day. I had to take a whole day off and pay for travel myself. The day had me doing a panel presentation review, talking with people from other teams, and a final chat with the hiring manager. In that last meeting, the hiring manager seemed checked out, and didn't show much interest in my questions. Honestly, the whole thing felt like they weren't clear on the role themselves and didn't really consider how much time, work, and money candidates put in.
- What's your approach to segmenting customer outreach for re-engagement and accelerating conversion on a new platform?
Product Manager
It was a good experience overall, it took about 6-7 weeks. There were multiple interview rounds and a homework assignment. The process included a Recruiter Call, then a Hiring Manager Call, followed by a take-home assignment, and finally a "Super Day" which consisted of 5 back-to-back 30-minute interviews.
- Can you explain something in extreme technical detail and then in a very simplified way?
Product Manager
This position had been open for 9 months, which makes me question their recruitment process. They asked for a case study, and I presented a detailed product workflow and plan. It felt like they were solving their own work problems through this interview process, so consider it a mock interview as they don't seem serious about hiring product roles. The process included an HR Screening to review experience and salary, a Hiring Manager interview with a very friendly and respected person, and a Final Panel interview with a stubborn and disrespectful senior engineering director, though the rest of the panel was nice. Overall, it seemed like a show for a role that doesn't actually exist.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your experience?
- Can you present your case study?
