First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BMW Group.
Intern
My internship interview with BMW Group was short but gave me a good look into what they expect. After my resume got through and I did an online game test, I had a 45-minute video chat with a manager and HR. We talked about my technical skills and how I'd use the 'BMW way' to tackle production issues. I didn't make it to the next stage, which is usually a team chat or case study. They said I fit the culture but lacked specific software experience for their team. Still, it showed me the high bar BMW sets for interns.
- What are your ideas on incorporating circular economy concepts into the design of future BMW vehicles?
Master Thesis Student
My master’s thesis interview in AI was pretty technical and interesting. We chatted about what I'm researching, my previous projects, and why I want to do this. The panel asked me stuff about machine learning, how I approach problems, and my future plans. It felt pretty laid back and informative, showing my strong points and where I could improve. All in all, a good and motivating experience.
- Can you share an example of how you've approached and resolved a coding challenge in a practical setting?
Marketing Assistant
It was a really friendly and chill interview. They asked a mix of questions about my skills and my personality. Some questions were about past experiences, and some were hypothetical, asking how I'd handle certain situations. There was also a presentation where I had to give recommendations on BMW's marketing strategy.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated creative problem-solving?
- Tell me about a time you had to come up with a creative solution to a problem.
- How have you handled problems creatively in the past?
IT Specialist
So there were 2 rounds of interviews. First was with HR, and the second was with HR and the hiring manager. In the second round, I was asked to talk about myself for about an hour. I had prepared a PowerPoint presentation to show why I'm a good fit for the job. Then they asked me another question about which car I'd pick if Oliver Zipse gave me one for free.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- If the CEO were to gift you a BMW, which model would you select?
