Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BMW Group.
Marketing Assistant
It was a really friendly and chill interview. They asked a mix of questions about my skills and my personality. Some questions were about past experiences, and some were hypothetical, asking how I'd handle certain situations. There was also a presentation where I had to give recommendations on BMW's marketing strategy.
- Can you share an instance where you demonstrated creative problem-solving?
- Tell me about a time you had to come up with a creative solution to a problem.
- How have you handled problems creatively in the past?
Marketing
I was picked up at reception by my two interviewers. They looked very serious at first, but that got better once we were in the room. Both were from the department, not HR. I was offered a drink, I took water, but barely drank it because I talked so much. They both first explained their areas of responsibility and then started asking me questions. I first introduced myself briefly before answering and then transitioned to marketing. Since I don't study marketing, I had to explain how I got into it. I was very nervous because I really wanted the job, which they probably noticed, but the atmosphere was still pleasant. I might not have given the best answers at times, but where it counted, I could show why I'm suitable for the position. The requirements in the job ad make you think an intern has to know everything and give perfect answers. I couldn't meet all the requirements, but that seemed okay as long as you're enthusiastic about the job and the BMW brand. Even if you don't answer a question perfectly or say something silly, it doesn't seem to be a problem; it shows you're human and gives the interviewers something to smile about. You should still prepare very well for the interview, as knowledge about the company is expected. They didn't ask any tricky questions, just questions relevant to the topic. I didn't have to do any performance or personality tests.
- What experience do you have in marketing?
- What is your experience with digital media?
- How do you analyze advertising?
Marketing
It was pretty tough, honestly, because I wasn't as prepared as I should have been. I hadn't done enough digging into the company beforehand, and I kind of tried to answer stuff even when I didn't really know the answers (though I guess it's okay not to have all the answers). They were really direct and to the point. They wanted to know what you could do, how you'd do it, and what the outcomes were. If I could go back and change how I approached the interview, I would. Definitely a lesson learned the hard way.
- Can you share the outcomes from your marketing research?
