First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vanguard.
Client Relationship Associate
So first there was this pre-recorded interview thing, then a phone interview, and then a video interview. The people I talked to were really friendly, it felt more like chatting. They said to check out the company's history before the phone interview, which focused on what I knew about Vanguard and why I wanted to work there. The video interview was about stuff related to the company's main values, and they mentioned using the STAR method and learning about them. The phone call was pretty short, like 20 minutes. The video one is max 30 minutes, so keep answers short.

The interview process involved a quick 15-minute screener followed by a four-hour virtual superday. The superday started with a 30-minute introduction, then a 1-hour behavioral interview focusing on STAR method questions and general interview topics. After that, there was a 1-hour situational interview where client scenarios were discussed. The day concluded with a networking session with current team members.
- How would you prioritize a mix of tasks like emails and client trades?
Application Engineer
First, they sent me an email with an online technical assessment that had some multiple-choice questions and a few LeetCode coding problems. After a few days of waiting, they called to set up the final interview. The final interview had two rounds, each an hour long. One round was technical, covering system design and another LeetCode problem, and the second round was behavioral.
- Can you share an instance where you received feedback?
- Describe a situation where you and a teammate had conflicting ideas, and explain how you resolved it.
Client Relationship Associate
Had a quick phone interview where they asked why I was interested in Vanguard and some basic questions about personal finance and investing, like what a stock or bond is. After that, I was invited for an in-person super day. They asked me how I would handle different customer service scenarios, such as dealing with an angry client.
- How would you manage a client who is angry due to market performance?
- What would you do in different customer service situations?
