Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vanguard.
Financial Advisor
The interview process involved a quick 15-minute screener followed by a four-hour virtual superday. The superday started with a 30-minute introduction, then a 1-hour behavioral interview focusing on STAR method questions and general interview topics. After that, there was a 1-hour situational interview where client scenarios were discussed. The day concluded with a networking session with current team members.
- How would you prioritize a mix of tasks like emails and client trades?
Financial Advisor
Had a pre-screen call with the recruiter, then an onsite interview that took about half a day. It was a panel interview that included a role-play case study. Overall, it felt lengthy and sterile. You know, the more questions you ask, the more it makes you question the competence of the interviewers.
- How would you handle an angry customer?
Financial Advisor
It's a two-step interview process. First, there's an initial phone screening to get basic info and give you a quick company overview. You can also share your qualifications then. Second, you'll have a virtual interview that includes answering questions and doing a role-play of a phone call with a "client".
- Can you share an instance where you had to overcome an objection?
- Describe a situation where you dealt with a difficult or upset client and how you resolved it.
- Tell me about a time you had to quickly adapt to a sudden policy change and how you managed it.
