First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at United Rentals.
Operations Manager
I applied and heard back from the recruiter about a week later. It was a pretty standard interview. The recruiter was really nice and went over the day-to-day duties and what the job involves. Then, two days later, I got a rejection email really late, after 10 PM. I'm not sure if it was a mistake or intentional, but the email was generic and said they were moving in a different direction. It felt like they could have just waited until the next morning, especially since the recruiter was on the East Coast and it would have been past midnight their time.
- How will your previous experience be applicable to United Rentals?
Business Development Representative
Really easy interview process. Started with a screening call, then a 30-minute Zoom chat with the BDR manager. They asked some questions about strengths and weaknesses, and then about sales scenarios. The people were super nice and it was a fast process.
- Can you describe your strengths and weaknesses?
- Given a scenario, how would you approach selling shoes?
Outside Sales Representative
The recruiter texted me 15 minutes before saying she was running late, which is okay, it happens. She called me when she said she would. Asked me 2 things about me which she could have read my Resume. Then she asked if i had any questions for her. I asked about the culture of the company her response was "yeah yeah its a good mm company". She didn't seem interested at all. The "interview" lasted 5 minutes. I would suggest the company to hire professional recruiters and not someone that wants a paycheck while sitting at home making calls.
- Do you have experience in outside sales?
Human Resources
The initial phone screen with the recruiter was not a positive experience. When I asked for clarification on questions that didn't seem relevant to my expertise or the role, the recruiter became frustrated and repeated the question, implying I might be misrepresenting my resume. This interaction gave me a negative impression of the organization. I was considering withdrawing from the process, but I was fortunately auto-rejected. It would be beneficial for the company's culture if this recruiter's attitude improved or if she were replaced.
- Could you tell me about your experience and walk me through your resume?
