First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UL Solutions.
Security Engineer
The interview process was smooth and fast, and communication with the recruiter and managers was clear. The questions asked during the interview were aligned with the job description and highlighted the required experiences. Scenario-based questions were asked, and I had to provide explanations for what I would do in those scenarios.
- Can you explain your understanding of the OWASP Mobile Top 10?
- Given a specific scenario, what actions would you take?
Regulatory Affairs Specialist
So I had this virtual interview with UL, and man, it was not great. There were two interviewers, but they both kept their cameras off the whole time. I get that some people might like that, but it felt super impersonal and distant, especially since it was the first round and you're trying to connect. The questions were really basic, like 'Tell me about yourself' and 'Why this job?' They were okay questions to start with, but they didn't really dig deeper or ask follow-up questions. It didn't feel like they were checking for specific skills or if I'd be a good fit. More like they were just going through the motions. The whole vibe was just distant and unclear. I couldn't really get a feel for the company culture, what they expect from the job, or who I'd be working with. Left the call feeling like I wasn't sure if they were actually interested or just checking boxes. It was weird compared to other interviews where they at least try to make it a conversation. Hope they change it up, first impressions are important for everyone.
- Can you share an instance where you resolved a problem independently?
Administrative Assistant
I had an interview with a recruiter from UL Solutions in Taiwan and the hiring manager in Hong Kong via Zoom. They were both friendly. We conversed in Chinese, English, and Cantonese. We discussed my past work and the core responsibilities of this position, which is an on-site support role at their client's premises. The direct manager seemed a bit uncertain about the specifics of the client's site and suggested performance evaluations would heavily depend on client feedback. It appears the manager isn't fully clear on the exact scope and duties of the role. The job posting might have been a bit misleading as it didn't specify that this is a full-time, one-year contract position.
- Can you start by introducing yourself?
- Please tell me about your previous work experience.
- Could you share an example of a project you managed and how you handled it?
HR and Payroll Administrator
I went through a selection process with UL Solutions in Europe. I had two really good interviews, which was confirmed via email. They even confirmed the final step was coming up, but then they just ghosted me right before that last interview, with no feedback at all. I reached out multiple times by email asking for feedback, but never heard back. It's super unprofessional, and I wouldn't suggest interviewing with their payroll team to anyone. Even the European manager didn't reply, even though they sent a positive written feedback. A candidate's time is valuable, especially after two interviews. They should really improve their interview process, or their Glassdoor score will stay low.
