Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UL Solutions.
Field Engineer
There were a few rounds, starting with a phone screening with internal recruiters, then a phone screening with the manager, and finally an in person interview. Everyone I worked with was pleasant and transparent.
- Can you describe your experience with electrical schematics and in what capacity you've used them?
- Describe a situation where you took on a leadership role and what that involved.
- What's your experience like interacting with clients in person?
Field Service Engineer
I applied online, and then HR reached out via email to set up a phone interview. It was about 20 minutes long and the HR person was nice. They said I'd hear back in a couple of weeks, but I never did. When I followed up, they told me they were moving forward with other candidates.
- Can you discuss your past work experiences and career path?
Field Engineer
The interview process started with a phone screening, followed by two more interviews. One was conducted over the phone, and the other was in person. Since it's an entry-level role, they were less focused on specific experience and more on how I'd align with their mission and represent the company. They also wanted to gauge my willingness to learn and commit long-term. Everyone I met was really friendly, making the interviews feel more like a chat than an interrogation. I actually enjoyed the in-person interview and we shared some laughs.
- What led you to study mechanical engineering?
- What motivates your interest in this particular job?
- Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered, detailing the task at hand, the actions you took, the outcomes, and importantly, what knowledge you gained from the experience?
