My experience interviewing with Toshiba America Energy Systems was confusing and ultimately disappointing. I expected a much more professional and engaging interview. During the interview process, some questions were asked, and comments were made that were not directly related to the role or responsibilities. The tone of the interaction was rough and unstructured, which stood out given the role’s seniority. There were also inconsistencies. After the first interview, I received a generic rejection email, even though the interviewer asked for a writing sample. After I sent a redacted federal proposal, I was invited to a second meeting to discuss it—but the feedback was simply that it “didn’t tell him anything,” which was odd given the technical nature and necessary redactions. Additionally, the salary discussed was 30-50% below market for a proposal specialist. Interestingly, a few weeks after these interactions, I was contacted again by the same talent acquisition person who had initially screened me—he didn’t recognize my name on Indeed and asked if I might be interested in the same role. I let him know that I had already interviewed and had decided to pursue other opportunities that better aligned with my experience, culture fit, and salary expectations. It was explained that the position was vacant because someone had left to pursue "their dream job". However, they also stated that they were now hiring two people for that role, which raises questions about management style and the workload on one person. Just a common reaction. Overall, I would urge candidates to clarify role expectations, compensation, and the hiring timeline early in the process. And don't hesitate to approach this, or any interview, as you are also interviewing them.

The interview process started with an aptitude round on campus, which included Quant, logical reasoning, and guessing the output of C code snippets. 28 students were shortlisted from this round. The next day, there were two technical rounds followed by an HR round. The first technical round involved questions about my preferred programming language, writing programs in it, and explaining my projects, along with some hardware questions about interrupts. Shortlisted students moved to the second technical round. In the second round, projects were discussed in detail, along with internship experiences and the idea for my final year project, even though it was still in the ideation stage. The interviewer also asked many fundamental questions from the E&TC syllabus, like those about RAM and ROM. I didn't perform well in this part because I had insufficient time to revise, as the aptitude results were announced late, and the interviews were scheduled for the next morning. Finally, the interviewer posed a puzzle. I wasn't selected after this round, but those who were proceeded to the HR round. In total, 4 students were selected by TOSHIBA from our campus.

I was interviewed by three panels: HR, a technical manager, and a general manager. It started with introductions and a discussion about my past work and why I left my last job. Then, we talked about work scenarios, like managing stress, handling coworker issues, and hypothetical situations. They also asked about my job responsibilities related to the job description. The technical manager might have asked about my technical experiences or knowledge. HR also asked questions to gauge my teamwork abilities. Overall, the process was good. My advice: be honest, HR doesn't like robotic answers. Connect your answers to the questions. Research the company and be knowledgeable about your field.

So, for the Toshiba hiring, there were over 500 of us in college for Round 1, and they were hiring for both Frontend Developer and C++ Developer roles. I went for the Frontend Developer one. Round 1 was like a mix of Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Technical MCQs. I passed that, so I got to go to Technical Interview 1. Two interviewers were there. One asked me to make a user rating thing with React lifecycle methods, and the other gave me this problem about finding the sum of the top two biggest numbers. They were pretty chill. After clearing that, I had Technical Interview 2 the next day, which was all about JavaScript questions and problems. I did okay there too and got moved to the Managerial Round. They asked me stuff from my resume, like about full-stack development, why I picked React.js, endpoints, and RESTful APIs, and other things. Lastly, I had the HR round, which was also fine. The whole thing took about a week. My HR interview was on Sunday, and by Monday, I got the offer.
