Technical Case Presentation

Went through a few rounds of virtual interviews with AVPs. They asked about technical stuff like ASC 820, DCF/WACC, and how PE funds value their portfolios. Then, I had to go into the office for a supervised case study. I did it on-site while being watched, and then immediately had a 1-on-1 to go over my work and justify my choices. They really put my assumptions under pressure. The whole process took a while, and then there was a long silence from recruiting. After I finished everything, including the in-office case study, it took 8 weeks to hear back. No updates or anything. When they finally called, it was to tell me I didn't get the job, which at least is more than some places do.

Behavioral Technical

The interviews themselves weren’t terrible, but putting a candidate through eight rounds only to reject them four months after the final round is unserious, disrespectful, and frankly revealing. The outcome felt less about merit and more about nepotism, optics, and superficial box-checking. I wouldn’t trust the people here. The culture is dominated by finance-bro try-hards, especially those cosplaying expertise in business, marketing, or finance without having actually studied any of it (e.g. art or french...). The so-called “diversity” is a joke, mostly just white hires repackaged as unconventional backgrounds. There’s something deeply off about this place. The environment feels ethically hollow, and driven by people who would happily sell out anything - values, integrity, humanity itself. For proximity to power or profit. I can’t imagine ever feeling proud to say I worked here. To be fair, there are intelligent people in the building. Unfortunately, many of them are buried under layers of pretension, greed, and performative ambition. Rejection is redirection, and in this case, it feels like a bullet dodged.

For the Real Estate Private Equity division, the interview process involved LBO maths, understanding why real estate, why BX, and mental maths. There were a total of four rounds plus an HR interview. The first two rounds consisted of a single interview each, while the third and fourth rounds each included three interviews. The interviewers ranged from senior associate to VP to MD.

I went through a few rounds at Blackstone for this role. First, I talked to a VP, then another VP, then an Associate, and then an Assistant VP. The last step was with HR, and they said I'd know something within a day. But even after checking in a week later, I never heard back. It was a bummer not to get a response, especially for a role like this and after putting in so much effort. I mean, at least an update or some feedback would be nice. A quick email would've been easy and shown some respect. For such a big company, the way it all ended felt pretty unprofessional. I hope they get better at communicating with candidates, because the interviews themselves were actually pretty good and organized, but the not knowing what happened really left a bad taste.
