First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Stitch Fix.
Enterprise Data Architect
The hiring manager reached out to me on LinkedIn and encouraged me to apply. After a chat with her, I kicked off the process with an HR screen. Then, I went through four interviews, each lasting 45 minutes to an hour, with team members covering retail systems, data modeling, behavioral aspects, and a coding challenge. The interviewers were mostly friendly. The final stage was an interview with the VP. The role she described was quite different from what the hiring manager initially presented, suggesting the job might be evolving or there was a lack of alignment between the hiring manager and VP. After the final round, HR said I'd hear back in a week. I followed up via email two weeks later and was asked to wait another week. In total, I spent about 10 hours preparing and interviewing, and I never got an official rejection.
- How would you go about modeling sample data as an ontology?
Software Engineer
The interview started with a recruiter call. After that, there was an interview with someone who wasn't a recruiter. This person's questions were a bit vague, and I wish they'd been more direct about what they were looking for. A major red flag for me was being asked for my home address right after the recruiter interview. That feels really off, and it's not something they should be asking until they're ready to make an offer.

It was a rewarding experience in a fluid and serene environment, with caring managers. Constructive discussions, pertinent questions that encouraged learning and collaboration. A calm atmosphere conducive to productivity and fulfillment.

Full Stack Software Engineer
The interview was scheduled for 3 hours via Zoom in 2021. My technical interview got cut off after just 5 minutes because Stitch Fix's system malfunctioned. After that, I did one more interview. Then, during my scheduled HR interview, the representative rudely ended it, saying they 'didn't want to waste either of our time.' This happened even though I was qualified, having recently accepted a $125k role as a senior software engineer with the same tech stack. Apparently, the company decided last minute to have me interview for a lead position, which I wasn't keen on and didn't agree to. I had to rearrange my part-time restaurant work schedule, which was tough financially, to make time for this 3-hour interview. It was unprofessional to be dismissed so abruptly, especially when the technical part, where I could have shown my skills, was cut so short.
- Can you share examples of when you've led teams or worked on an impactful project?
