First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sony Music Entertainment.
Intern
The interview process was alright. They asked questions more so pertaining to the position. The interviews were conducted online. They seemed quite impassive, which made it a little nerve-racking. Surprised that they didn't follow up after interviews to let candidates know they've selected someone. Found that inconsiderate and unprofessional.
- What are some music trends you are currently enjoying?
Data Analyst Manager
Applied via the job portal and then had an initial chat with HR. About a week later, I was notified that my profile was selected for the next meeting, which was with my direct manager at their office. I had to present a short case study about my interpretation of music charts data. After passing this stage, I was invited for a final interview with the Sony Music Indonesia MD, where we discussed role expectations and my personality.
- Can you tell me which music genre best suits your personality and explain your reasoning?
Data Science Director
Applied in March and after a hiring manager interview, a tech interview, and two group interviews, I was told in July I was not moving forward. Communication was terrible throughout the 4-month process. Despite claims of internal business needs causing delays, it's unacceptable to take this long, especially to reject a candidate after they were asked to provide availability for the next round. I received only an email notification.
- Can you describe your approach to interacting with DSPs for modeling purposes and explain the distinctions between different teams?
Legal Affairs
The hiring process was quite lengthy and included some unusual requirements for the level of expertise and seniority, like a written assignment. While the interviews themselves were straightforward and the people were pleasant, the process felt very rigid. I received a 'verbal only' offer that was only valid for one day, which struck me as a significant red flag. Because of these concerns, I ultimately declined the offer.
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with this company?
