First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Sony Music Entertainment.
Administrative Assistant
I didn’t hear back after the interview and was left in limbo, which was totally unfair and not a nice feeling to be honest, but I guess silence says it all, right? Or perhaps it’s just not what I’m used to, but nevertheless, I can’t fault them; it’s a good brand to have on the CV.
- Do you have examples of your chemistry in a work setting, using the STAR method?
Executive Assistant
I went through three rounds and a written assignment. Then they told me I’d hear an update when they had one. I followed up twice and got completely ghosted. To put people through a month long process to not even give someone the courtesy of a written rejection tells me way more about the company culture than any other point of the interview process.
- Why did you want to apply for this executive assistant role?
Administrative Assistant
So I applied online, which was probably like my tenth attempt at Sony Music, but it's normal because they get a lot of applications. I heard back that same afternoon. We scheduled a phone chat so they could get to know me better. They asked the usual stuff about my current role and why I'd be a good fit. After that, they set up an in-person meeting with the hiring manager. This one was more detailed about my background, which is expected. The next step was meeting the VP of the department. The person I met with was super nice and had already looked at my LinkedIn, so make sure yours is current! It felt like a mix of an interview and a casual chat; they want to see if you have a good personality along with the necessary skills. It was cool to see the office too, even if I didn't get the job!
- Tell me why you're interested in Columbia Records?
- What music are you into right now?
- What do you consider your greatest strength?
