Financial Reporting Manager
I applied on LinkedIn for a role I was qualified for, and my resume showed I met all requirements. The recruiter contacted me via text, which was unprofessional. They said the hiring team wouldn't consider me for the role I applied for, but would consider me for a lower position, which is what I've been doing for 4 years. I replied that I wasn't interested in a role I was overqualified for, and it would be a downgrade. Over a month later, I was still getting emails about my application status for that lower role, even though I never applied for it and told them not to consider me.
- Are you willing to accept a position with less pay and responsibility than the one you applied for?
- Would you be interested in a role that represents a step back in your career and a reduction in salary?
Sample Coordinator
My interview experience was a bit unique since I was already working for Skechers in retail. An HR manager first reached out about the Sample Coordinator role and we had a quick chat on MS Teams. He asked if I was interested in applying. After I said yes, he connected me with the hiring team. They scheduled an interview for the next morning at the Manhattan Beach HQ. The interview itself was about 45 minutes long. Mostly, the hiring team, which included the director and a couple of managers, asked if I had any questions. Since I was an internal candidate, they likely already had a good sense of who I was from HR. They told me they thought I'd be a good fit, and I got the offer a few days later.
- Can you describe the day-to-day responsibilities of this role?
- Could you explain the scope of a Sample Coordinator's operations?
- What are the potential career growth paths for a Sample Coordinator?
Account Executive
I went for an interview in Singapore, but it was a really bad experience with poor communication. I showed up only to find out the job I applied for was already filled, and nobody bothered to update the posting or let me know beforehand. The interviewer didn't even know what position I was there for and had to ask me. To make matters worse, they were judgmental, suggesting that people from smaller companies can't adapt to a larger one. Then they went on to say there's a lot of overtime every month, including weekends, and questioned if people from smaller companies could handle it. It made me wonder why I was even called in for an interview.
- This role involves a lot of overtime and weekend work, can you handle it?
- Do you think you can handle the overtime and weekend demands of this role, coming from a smaller company?
- What are your thoughts on the significant overtime and weekend work required for this position?
Director of Merchandising
The interview process was pretty standard. It started with a video call with a recruiter, and then all the subsequent interviews were in person. They wouldn't do virtual interviews after the first recruiter call. The in-person interviews themselves were pretty standard, but the experience was really bad. I had to wait in the lobby for about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me to check in, even though I got there early. After that, the first interviewer just fired questions at me really fast and didn't really seem to pay attention to my answers. It felt super rushed. The second interviewer was also super rude and unprofessional. They had really old-fashioned ideas about candidates who had worked in multiple places. They were totally focused on people who had stayed in jobs for a long time and were really nasty when asking about my work history. Honestly, they were confrontational and unpleasant the whole time, and it honestly made me not want to work there.
- Can you share an instance where managing change was a key aspect of your responsibilities and explain how you handled it?
- Describe a time when change management was crucial in your role and detail how you approached it.
