The hiring process was quite long, but unfortunately, there was no follow-up communication afterward. The recruiter was pleasant but mistakenly identified me with another applicant, which was a bit disheartening. We then communicated via text, which worked out, and scheduled an in-person meeting with the District Leader. Upon arrival, I had to wait about 20 minutes. Then, another Store Manager interviewed me on the sales floor for roughly 30 minutes regarding the position (I suspect they were making the SM wait for the DM to return from lunch). After waiting for over an hour past my scheduled time, my actual interview commenced. The interview itself was okay; the DM and the Area Manager were both cordial. However, there was no post-interview feedback, neither an email, call, nor text from the recruiter to inform me of the decision. Given the time I invested, I felt some form of closure was warranted.

I applied online and had a phone chat with a recruiter that lasted about 30-45 minutes. I thought it went great and they said they'd connect me with the District Manager for an in-person meeting. A few days later, I got an email asking about my availability for an in-person interview at the new store that week. I replied right away saying I was free all day. But then, nothing. I ended up going to the store myself at the end of the week, but it was completely empty. I left my resume for the DM. After more emails and calls over a few days with no response, I saw work happening at the store. I tried reaching out to the recruiter again but still no word. This morning, I finally got an email saying they went with someone else whose qualifications were a better fit. I've got over 20 years in retail management and 30 years total in management, so I know I'm qualified.

First, I had a pre-screen call with the recruiter. Then we scheduled a Skype interview where they asked general questions. After that, I had a face-to-face interview with the DM. We then went into the store and they showed me visual and operational expectations. They asked me how I would merchandise products differently and why. Lastly, I had a phone interview with the Regional Manager and then I got offered the job. The recruiter kept me updated throughout the process.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • The questions weren't hard, but the DM asked deeper follow-up questions that made it more interesting.
  • The interview questionnaire was pretty standard for Management positions.
