The interview process involved two main stages. It began with a chat about data engineering and understanding the company's business. This was followed by a take-home assignment designed to assess skills like data exploration and processing. The second stage was an in-office interview where I had to explain my take-home assignment and learn more about the day-to-day responsibilities at Proofpoint. They mentioned the whole process would be two rounds. I only found out they chose another candidate after I told them I had another offer, otherwise, there was just silence.

Behavioral Case Presentation

The interview process included an initial HR call focusing on motivations and background, followed by a second interview with the marketing director to delve into sales experience. The final round involved a mock call and case presentation with the sales leader, sales director, and marketing director. Communication with HR was difficult, requiring multiple follow-ups for a decision. The entire process took about 2 weeks for the interviews, but the final decision took another 3 weeks.

Behavioral Presentation

I interviewed for the VP of Shared Services role and was told to move quickly. I spoke with several team members, but not the hiring manager directly. I asked to meet with the hiring manager, but that didn't happen. The recruiter gave me most of the info about the role. After the interviews, communication stopped. I was supposed to hear about next steps, but my follow-ups were ignored and I never got an update. The process ended without any resolution. For a senior role, better ownership of the hiring process, direct access to the hiring manager, and basic follow-up would make it a better experience.

Applied online and a recruiter reached out. The first two rounds went fine, but the final technical round was unexpected. I was expecting questions about cloud and automation, like Azure and Terraform, which were emphasized in the job description. However, the questions were very basic L1 support level. I tried to showcase my Terraform project for automating DKIM and DMARC compliance, but it didn't seem to make an impact. Overall, the process was smooth, but it felt like the company's actual needs didn't match the role they were hiring for. On the plus side, they didn't ghost me, and the recruiter who I started with communicated the outcome directly, which I appreciate.
