First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Proofpoint.
Sales Engineer
The interview process was a waste of time. First, the recruiter was unsure about my experience, saying it was adjacent, but still pushed me forward. Then, the hiring manager missed the scheduled meeting because of a recruiter error. In the next meeting, the hiring manager stated I lacked email security skills, which makes me wonder why the interview happened at all. I'd strongly advise avoiding this company.
- What are your skills in email security?
Sales Engineer
Proofpoint has a really solid interview process. It all kicks off with the recruiter. Then, you chat with the hiring manager to align on the role's requirements. After that, there's a technical screening covering basic email and network security questions. You'll then connect with other team members before getting an invitation to visit their campus. The onsite interview is quite good. You'll present a solution using some slides you prepared and then answer questions in a mock meeting. This is super helpful for understanding the job's demands and shows how you handle situations. Following this, I had a quick sync with the hiring manager's manager to ensure we were a good mutual fit. That's basically the whole thing. It's not overly challenging if you know your area well. The recruiter was outstanding throughout, keeping me informed and answering questions immediately.
- Can you tell me about basic security knowledge?
- Do you have questions about basic email security?
- Can you answer questions about basic network security?
Sales Engineer
The interview process was well-organized and took about two months from the first contact to receiving the offer. The interviewers were friendly and provided helpful feedback. There were 6 interviews in total: an initial screening by a recruiter, a "get to know you" chat with the hiring manager, a technical interview with another Sales Engineer, and two interviews with account managers. A key part was a 25-minute presentation on the company's product portfolio, delivered as if to a customer, to a panel of Sales Engineers and managers. Getting to this presentation stage means you're a serious candidate. Afterwards, the recruiter contacted me with the hiring manager's interest in extending an offer, requested my references, and then a written offer was sent with a 3-day response window. A background check was conducted by a third-party company, which could take 3-4 weeks.
- How do you keep yourself informed about the latest developments in the security field?
