First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Proofpoint.
Account Executive
The first chat was with HR, it was pretty chill. She kept asking if I was actively looking or just browsing, even though I said I'd consider it if it was a perfect fit. They did take time to answer my questions about the culture, pay, and hiring process. The second round was with the hiring manager. He asked me general sales questions, how I qualify leads, and about my experiences. My feedback for him is to update his LinkedIn bio first if he's judging candidates' profiles. His experience and bio are from a previous employer and are two years outdated, so he can't judge a candidate's connections and sales experience. I was told the next round would be with a VP or someone more senior. After following up multiple times, I was asked to be patient, but they haven't communicated back yet. I didn't get an offer. Overall, management had a laid-back approach.

The interview process with Proofpoint started off well but unfortunately left a lot to be desired by the end. Initially, I was in contact with a recruiter, and our communication was quite flexible. I underwent several rounds of interviews, which included discussions with hiring managers and department leaders. I even delivered a formal presentation to a panel of senior employees, demonstrating my skills and commitment to the role. Despite the time and effort I invested in preparing for these interviews and presentations, the entire process ultimately ended with me being ghosted by the company. After the final round, including the presentation, I received no communication or feedback regarding the outcome of my application. I attempted to follow up with the recruiter multiple times, only to be met with silence. I completely understand not being selected for a role—that happens and is part of the process—but not informing candidates after such a thorough process is highly unprofessional. The lack of communication, particularly after engaging with the company at such a deep level, shows a disregard for the candidate's time and effort. This kind of behavior is not acceptable, especially for a company of Proofpoint’s stature. This lack of professionalism in their recruitment process reflects poorly on their internal culture and may explain their average rating. It’s disappointing that a company which prides itself on innovation and excellence in cybersecurity cannot handle a basic recruitment process properly.
