First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Monks.
Data Analyst
My interview was quite straightforward. After applying, I had an initial contact via WhatsApp where I received more details about the position. Following that, we scheduled a team interview. The questions focused on my background and skills, like asking why I wanted to switch jobs, about my past experiences, and what I do in my free time. The interview was in English because the team is based in Mexico and doesn't speak Portuguese. The next step involved a case study. I was sent a file with raw data and had to use it to answer specific questions. I could use any tool or method I preferred, as long as I could answer the questions using the provided data (I opted to create a dashboard). After this, I received a positive response. In my case, I didn't have to present the case study.
- What are your motivations for seeking a new role, can you describe your professional experiences, and what are your hobbies?
- A technical case study was provided, which included raw data for social media performance, where you could use any tools you wanted to analyze the data and answer questions.
- Why are you looking to switch jobs? Tell me about your experiences. What do you do in your free time?
Product Designer
I got an email from Monks to set up a fit interview. The first interview was with a recruiter who seemed like they were just reading from a script, it felt very impersonal. They said I passed to the next round, an interview with the design lead. This interview was better, more personal, and they asked about my past work and to walk through my portfolio. They also told me about the job and answered my questions. After that, I heard nothing. I sent two emails and got no reply, not even a rejection. The recruitment team seemed unprofessional.
- Can you describe your design process?
- Tell me about your past work experience.
- Could you provide a walkthrough of your portfolio?
Project Management Director
I went through four interviews, the last one being with the SVP, and then heard nothing for a week before being told they promoted someone internally. If the intention was always to promote internally, they should have said so upfront. Making external candidates prepare and do panel interviews for hours is disrespectful and shows disorganization. This whole thing wasted my time, energy, and trust. A company that's 'well-established' should be able to set clear expectations and respect candidates' time. Until they improve their hiring process and communication, I'd avoid them. Basically, they're good at wasting your time but not at communicating honestly.
- The SVP asked about my biggest pet peeve.
Design Analyst
Before the interview, I was sent a technical test asking me to structure a campaign with 7 creatives and 1 motion, along with the strategy and copy, with a one-week deadline. The communication from the talent acquisition team is weak or almost non-existent; I didn't receive any feedback about the process, only a chat scheduling without anything written. I was interviewed directly by the head of the area, with many technical questions and then a presentation of the challenge I had submitted. I received the rejection in about 1 week, without specific feedback on my interview performance.
- Tell me about how you handle project rejection and the need for revisions.
- How do you manage deadlines and demands?
- What's your approach when dealing with tight deadlines?
