Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Monks.
Product Designer
I got an email from Monks to set up a fit interview. The first interview was with a recruiter who seemed like they were just reading from a script, it felt very impersonal. They said I passed to the next round, an interview with the design lead. This interview was better, more personal, and they asked about my past work and to walk through my portfolio. They also told me about the job and answered my questions. After that, I heard nothing. I sent two emails and got no reply, not even a rejection. The recruitment team seemed unprofessional.
- Can you describe your design process?
- Tell me about your past work experience.
- Could you provide a walkthrough of your portfolio?
Product Designer
The process consists of 4 interviews. The first is with HR, very pleasant, where they tell us about the company and leave time for our questions. The next are with design managers; one involves a case study review, and the last is a live exercise. The process was very pleasant for me. Despite the nerves, the people are very friendly and create a calm atmosphere.
- Can you describe instances where you've collaborated with engineers previously?
Product Designer
I found the job on LinkedIn and a recruiter contacted me. The first step was a 30-minute video chat with the recruiter. Like others mentioned, the recruiter seemed clueless about the company, their work, and my potential role. There was a lack of clarity about the specific position I was interviewing for. The recruiter also came across as unfocused and disengaged during the call. It was hard to tell if it was a language barrier, distraction, or just carelessness, but they were slow. When I asked what keeps them at the company, they couldn't provide an answer. This lack of insight felt like another warning sign.
- Could you introduce yourself?
- Walk me through your projects.
