First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Menards.
Stocker
Applied online, then had an in-person chat with the head of HR. They asked about my knowledge of Menards, the company. Then we talked about my strengths and weaknesses, plus accomplishments and future goals. Pretty standard stuff.
- What is your understanding of Menards as a business?
- Can you discuss your strengths and weaknesses?
- Could you share some of your accomplishments?
Stocking Associate
First, you apply online. Then, there's a brief phone or video call to see if you're qualified and interested. If that goes well, you'll have one or more interviews with the hiring manager and maybe some other team members. These can be online or in person, and they'll talk about your experience and skills. Some jobs might have extra tests, like a written one or a role-play. After the interviews, they might check your references or do a background check. If everything checks out, they'll offer you the job. Then comes onboarding.
- Tell me about your previous work history.
Sales Associate
The interview process was quite a wait for a manager who was late and absent. I had to fill out a paper with info already on my application. Then, there was a paper asking if I'd steal from the company in many ways. After that, the normal interview began. They were immediately and clearly disappointed I couldn't be available to close sales at 10 PM, which wasn't stated in the job listing that only mentioned 'flexible' scheduling. The reality is, if you can't close twice a week, don't bother applying. It was also unprofessional that the manager walked away without offering a handshake.
- Can you share an instance where a team member didn't contribute equally to the workload?
Department Manager
The interview process kicked off with a phone call to go over your availability and what the job demands are. After that, you come in for a face-to-face interview with some pretty standard questions. Answer those and you're golden. Be prepared for an immediate drug test - they mouth swab you right then and there. The key is no smoking weed for 72 hours, it's not detectable any longer than that by mouth swab. A present from me to you.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- What innovative thing did you do at a former job?
- How many people did you directly supervise?
