Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Menards.
Manager
You can apply in store or online. If you get a call for an interview, set up a date. The General Manager and HR will interview you. They will ask questions and give you a chance to ask questions. Then you either get hired or not.
- What strengths would you bring to the company?
Management Trainee
The interview process was pretty straightforward and mostly easy. It started with a short phone interview to gauge my personality and suitability for retail. Then, I had an in-person interview with the HR coordinator, which included standard questions about my work history, why I'd be a good fit for Menards, my weaknesses, and what previous employers would say about me. If you can show you're competent and can handle different customers, you've got a decent shot. Getting the offer took about 3-4 weeks after the interview, mainly due to thorough background checks. Overall, it was a good experience.
- What is your greatest weakness?
Assistant Manager
I had a one-on-one interview with the HR representative at the store. Before the interview, I filled out some paperwork that had a bunch of questions about my past work experiences and how I would handle different situations. The whole interview took about 30 minutes and the rep was really nice and easy to talk to.
- What are your thoughts on theft?
