Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Menards.
Stocker
Applied online, then had an in-person chat with the head of HR. They asked about my knowledge of Menards, the company. Then we talked about my strengths and weaknesses, plus accomplishments and future goals. Pretty standard stuff.
- What is your understanding of Menards as a business?
- Can you discuss your strengths and weaknesses?
- Could you share some of your accomplishments?
Stocker
I applied for a Stocker position with morning hours (5 am to 9 am, Monday to Friday). However, during the interview with the manager, he mentioned the store hours are actually 8 am to 9 pm and offered me an outside yard receiving role instead. This felt unprofessional. While I understand companies face challenges, it would have been better to inform me upfront if the Stocker position wasn't available rather than wasting my time with a role that doesn't fit my schedule.
- Can you describe your responsibilities in your previous job?
Stocker
After applying to Menards, I waited about a month and called HR a few times to show I was still interested. Finally, HR called me back for an interview. It was pretty standard. We talked about my past work experience and education. The HR person mentioned the available jobs at the time, which were just Morning Stocker and Cashier for part-time. They asked common interview questions like, 'Tell me a time something difficult happened to you. How did you handle it and what was the outcome?' After the interview, they offered me the job, and I started training two days later.
- Tell me a time something difficult happened to you. How did you handle it and what was the outcome?
