Case Presentation

The whole experience felt chaotic and frustrating. First, I was rejected after stage 2, only to be contacted later and asked to re-enter the process. While I appreciated the opportunity to continue, it created confusion about how structured the hiring process actually is. Second, the case study felt excessive and unusually specific. I was asked to solve what appeared to be a real, live business problem the company is facing — specifically how HelloFresh could compete with Gousto’s offering of 100+ recipes. Candidates were expected to develop a fairly detailed solution. After presenting once, I was then asked to present the same case again as if to the CEO, with the goal of “convincing them” to see my “stakeholder management skills”. This felt unusual given that the exercise had already been completed and the team in question had not managed to convince the CEO of this. Ultimately I was rejected again after the second presentation. Case studies can be useful in interviews, but this one felt more like consulting on a real problem than an assessment exercise. Combined with the back-and-forth in the process, the experience came across as disorganised and unnecessarily demanding for candidates.

The first part was with HR where they mainly discussed benefits and profit sharing. After that, I spoke with the hiring manager, who seemed out of touch with current IT trends and confused about roles like Product Owner, Project Manager, and Scrum Master. He also seemed unsure about attending the same university as me, which was odd. He wished me luck on the next interview with his manager, but I later received a rejection email, making me suspect he was dishonest about his education and didn't want me to proceed.

I went through three technical interviews, one of which was a system design interview, and another focused on software engineering basics like DSA. There was also an interview with an executive. The questions mostly revolved around Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, and Monitoring. For the DSA part, I had to solve a straightforward problem and then discuss the solution and its time complexity.

I interviewed for the Senior Data Analyst role at HelloFresh. The process was great, organized, and a good experience. My recruiter, Jenny, was very nice, professional, and upfront. She explained the timeline and pay, and the interview felt like a chat. The questions were mostly about communication, data viz, and working with others. I got feedback quickly and it was respectful. I didn't get the job because they needed someone with more marketing data systems experience. HelloFresh seems like a company that really cares about good communication and professionalism. I'd tell others to apply.
