BorgWarner Interview Questions
& Process

BorgWarner said it would be one HR Teams interview and one with managers. After a couple of weeks, I got an invite for an onsite interview. Then I got another invite for a HR interview. The process was unpredictable. After four rounds, there was no update for a long time. When I followed up, I was told the position was cancelled! Then, a week later, I was told it reopened. A week after that, I got an offer. I called HR twice the first day and left a message, but got no reply. The second day I called HR again, still no reply. So I emailed asking for a counter offer. I got rejected immediately. They took their offer back and rejected me! At the time, I thought I had an offer from BorgWarner, so I rejected a second offer from another company. Now, after an email trying to negotiate my offer with BorgWarner, I was rejected and I had no offer, and I was out of work. I've never seen this happen before. It was ridiculous!

This was a super technical interview. They mostly focused on stuff that was already on my resume. I thought I prepped well for the job description but got flustered when they asked about my previous experience. It was also my first interview ever, so I was really nervous. There were three interviewers, and they were all technical folks from the Data Science team.

Applied through the company website and heard back after about 2 weeks for an online interview. It was with both HR and the Hiring Manager and lasted an hour. HR went first, introducing herself and the company, then the Hiring Manager. After I introduced myself, they asked some standard questions, and I got to ask them questions about the role and company. The Hiring Manager gave positive feedback on my answers, like "your approach is good", "this aligns with our values", and "I like your thought of viewing the product data". It felt professional with back-and-forth discussion, focusing on the role, my education, experience, and skills. The interview was about 35-40 minutes. They said they'd reply in a week, but the next week they let me know they were still interviewing and finalizing candidates. After waiting 3 weeks, I got a standard rejection email. I tried asking HR for feedback on areas for improvement, but no response.

This was one of the worst interview experiences I've had. The technical interviewer asked about experiences not listed on my CV. I'm not sure if they even review the CV beforehand or if they just want to confuse candidates. The HR person was nice and understanding, but the technical interviewer was an impolite power electronics expert who couldn't appreciate skills from other fields. I usually don't complain, but this interview crossed a line and I feel compelled to share it with future candidates.
