First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BioMarin Pharmaceutical.
Manufacturing Supervisor
The interview process was structured and included both technical and behavioral questions. It involved 30-minute discussions with Directors, Tech Ops, and HR. It started with an HR phone screen, followed by an onsite interview with these departments. The interview was held in a conference room, with no facility tour. There was also a tour of the area with a local real estate agent.
- Tell me about a situation where an employee on your team wasn't meeting expectations.
Regulatory Affairs Manager
I was initially contacted by a third-party recruiter who was fantastic. The role offered a remote option. However, the hiring manager was dismissive and seemed to interrogate me. She was very insistent that I needed to be on the West Coast, believing it's the only suitable location for working across all time zones, which I don't necessarily agree with but didn't argue. She also explicitly stated that my experience wasn't at a Senior Manager level, which was surprising. It felt like a waste of time, and I definitely wouldn't want to work for someone with that perspective. Interviews should be a two-way street.
- Tell me about a CMC strategy you helped with.
Intern
The interview process was straightforward. It had 2 main rounds: an initial screening with the recruiter, followed by an interview with the hiring manager. Both interviews focused on behavioral questions. The interviewers were kind, and there were no technical questions, just inquiries about previous work experiences.
- Can you share a past accomplishment you're proud of?
Treasury Coordinator
Had a phone call to schedule an interview with my supervisor. Then had a lunch interview with my supervisor, where I got to choose from two places. It was just lunch with the supervisor, and we mostly ate in silence. I felt like I had the job after the first interview and the supervisor was just going through the motions. The head recruiter called me after to offer me the position.
- Can you explain your motivation for wanting to join our company?
