Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BioMarin Pharmaceutical.
Manufacturing Technician
Had an initial interview with the hiring manager which went really well. It included competency based questions and questions about how my experience fit the job description. Then there was an HR phone call which was really bad, the HR manager needs to learn how to talk to people nicely.

Manufacturing Technician
The interview process was pretty standard. It started with a recruiter phone screen, then a phone screen with the hiring manager. After that, there was an onsite interview with a group of nine people. These onsite interviews were back-to-back 30-minute sessions, some one-on-one and some in panels. They asked behavioral questions and wanted more details about things on my resume. You should be ready to talk in depth about everything you've listed on your resume. I noticed that interviewers with higher positions seemed less prepared, so be ready to just talk about yourself if they don't have specific questions. It felt like a typical interview. One thing that stood out was the interview team was mostly men, which made me wonder about the environment for female employees and if hiring decisions were solely made by men. With nine interviewers, only one was a woman, and she barely spoke. Other companies I've worked for usually try to ensure diversity on hiring teams, so this felt like a red flag.
- What makes you want to join BioMarin?
- Could you elaborate on the information provided in your resume?
Manufacturing Technician
It was a really laid-back interview. I first talked to them at my university's career fair. After that, I had a phone interview, and then they invited me for a 3-4 hour in-person interview. The interview was super chill. I actually had a great time there. I really liked how the interviewers weren't just focused on learning about me, but they also kept telling me about their company and their work. Unfortunately, I couldn't accept my offer because of some personal reasons, but I'd love to work for them in the future.
