First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vans.
Marketing Intern
Did Excel exercises during the interview, sharing my screen. It was only hard skills and zero evaluation of education or potential, I didn't think it was a good evaluation. They called me back for another interview with another team and it was the same.
- Can you do a vlookup in Excel?
Supervisor
Since this was an internal promotion, I went through two interviews. The first one was with a manager from another store in our district, which was a preliminary step before the interview with our district manager. After that was approved, the interview with the district manager was scheduled and happened a few days later. The whole process took a little less than a month. The interview itself was about 20-30 minutes and was just with our district manager, but it ran a bit longer because of some personal questions.
- What personal attributes do you possess that qualify you for this supervisor position?
- Could you share one of your strengths and one of your weaknesses?
Sales Lead
The interview process wasn't too long, lasting about 20-30 minutes. It involved discussions about your performance and impact as a sales lead. The questions weren't overly difficult, but it was definitely nerve-wracking being interviewed by a District Manager. Be elaborate and confident in your answers, especially if you're a seasoned employee at Vans or another store.
- As a sales lead, what unique contribution would you offer that's currently missing in the store?
Floor Supervisor
It's a pretty simple process. It's actually easier to get manager positions if you're already here or if you started out as a sales associate or lead. Just be confident and ready to talk about your strengths and weaknesses, and give examples of how you've helped other associates. They really care about sales and KPIs, so it's good to mention how you'll bring fresh ideas to the management team to help the store do great.
- Why are you the best fit for this role and how will you contribute to the store's success?
- What are your key strengths and areas for improvement, and can you provide specific examples of how you've utilized your strengths to support colleagues?
- What innovative strategies would you propose to the management team to enhance the store's performance and achieve its goals?
